5 Ways Real Estate Agents Can Build Relationships with Social Media

“You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”

-Zig Ziglar

By doing for others, taking time to foster online relationships, and by not only talking about their listings, Realtors can build real relationships using Social Media.

1. Do for Others

As a real estate agent you have valuable experience and market knowledge of the area you serve. Social media is a great place to share your insight and let people know who you are and how you see real estate in your area. If your currently blogging, you should post your articles to your social media channels. If you’re not, you might want to consider it. Like most realtors you probably can’t seem to find the time to blog. In this case you can still show yourself as an industry leader by finding interesting articles online that you believe will help others and share that information. By sharing information that is helpful and educational on your social media platforms and you will start to see better results. Realtors need to share things that engage their audience and encourage conversation about the topic, such as,

“3 Common Things That Go Wrong with Sea Side Homes: What You Need to Know Before You Buy or Sell.”

Anyone with a sea side home is likely to be interested in the article and if they have questions you’re going to be the realtor that comes to mind.  If you are having trouble finding interesting and relevant content to post, try sites like Buzzsumo and Flipboard

2. Spend Time Building Relationships

It takes time to build relationships and relationships online aren’t any different. Do not just post your new listing and then forget it. You’ll need to make a little time everyday to show people who are connecting with you that you care about them. Show people you care by responding to their posts and thanking them for their ‘likes’. Take some time each week to reach out to new people in your social media spheres and network. Offer them information and ask them ‘follow’ or ‘like’ your page for more great real estate information. Be authentic and show people you care about their posts by giving them a ‘like’, reposting interesting finds and thanking them for the information. This will help you begin to build online relationships and will improve your knowledge as well.

3. Do Not Only Discuss Yourself or Your Listings

Don’t brag. People don’t want to hear you on your soap box reminding them of all your accomplishments and accolades. People want to know what you know and what you can do for them. Show them that it’s not all about you and it is all about them, by sharing other realtors listings you think they might be interested in. This will show people that you have their…

This will show people that you have their best interest at heart and that it’s not all about the money. After all, social media is about community.

4. Be Consistent

Consistency is key when it comes to building your brand, creating awareness and promoting engagement.  Do some research and find out when your viewers are most active with your content and create a social media schedule.

4. Use Humor

Life today is already serious enough!  People need a good laugh, and it is important to add elements of humor into your social media strategy.  However, be sure you are doing this appropriately.  Remember, how you represent your brand and business is tied in with everything you put out.
